The piece adopts a comprehensive and free-form structure, aiming to blend the formal elements of traditional forms such as sonata, rondo, and variation with the natural development of folk melodies. The main musical material of the piece originates from an ancient folk song (anonymous) that the composer personally collected and organized during their immersion in the Taihang Mountain region.
