▌簡介 Overview 這是一部循著水的聲音開展的紀錄片，在流動與停滯之間，凝視水的多重樣態，感受人與水之間交織的情感、信仰、恐懼、渴望…，水與生命緊密相連的牽絆與糾結。 The sounds of water, whether flowing or stilled, capture the myriad facets of this liquid elixir. They tell of water’s inextricable influence on human relationships and religion as well as upon our fears and desires. However, our relationship with water, while so essential to existence, remains fraught with challenges. ​ 水透過太陽與風的驅動，在海洋、陸地與大氣之間往返，並隨季節更迭，以雨、霧、冰雪的形貌，出現在我們的生活中。水文循環不只是自然現象，而是支撐著生命演替與存續，是地球生態系統得以維繫的核心。 Air currents and solar heat cycle water through the ocean, land, and atmosphere. Across the seasons, airborne mists once again recondense into rain, fog, and snow. The hydrologic cycle is more than mere natural phenomenon; it is essential to the succession of life and to our existence today. It is the foundation of all life on earth. ​ 台灣島(本島)年平均降水量，是全球平均值的三倍，卻因時空分布不均，每人每年獲得的年均降水量，約為全球平均值的五分之一，是個缺水國家。以氣候特徵與時間周期來看，水患與乾旱是這座島嶼的宿命，而環境過度開發與水資源無節制的耗用，讓旱澇災害的輪迴更加無情。 Surprisingly, although Taiwan receives three times more rainfall than the global average, the high variability and often torrential nature of this precipitation mean that the water available per capita here is just one-fifth the global average. While the unique nature of its climate and seasonal cycles has woven both deadly floods and extreme drought into the fabric of Taiwan’s fate, these problems have been further compounded by overdevelopment and the overuse of chronically strained water resources. ​ 水多、水少，都可能致災；過度使用或污染，會加速水環境的崩解。水是生命的泉源，但也會引發毀滅的機制。水生、水滅，無色、無味，時而昇華、或為凝結。每一顆露珠，從未彰顯它的光芒。每一滴水，跟生命緊緊相繫著。在《水．不水之間》，我們聆聽水的低語、凝視水的不同時態。 Deluge and drought can be equally deleterious, while overuse and pollution can collapse water availability. Water is both essential and destructive to life. Without color or flavor, water nevertheless manages to encapsulate both the sublime and the mundane. There is hidden brilliance in each dewdrop and a connection to humanity in every drop of rain. Water in the Balance gives voice to water and offers a compelling lens into its myriad forms. ​ ​ ​ ​ ▌導演的話 Message from the Director ​ 長年在各地進行環境田野調查，每次到當地打開水龍頭，心裡都會想，這道水，是連通到哪一條河流？哪一個集水區？或者它的水源頭，是來自哪座山脈？水是所有生命的重要元素，卻也是我們生活中的兩難，太多或太少，都成為問題。近三十年來，旱澇劇烈擺盪，時而如狂瀾致災，時而如枯井無聲。我深刻感受到，水的難題，是台灣必須面對的挑戰。 Field survey work has given me genuine respect for the rivers and reservoirs sending water to a just-opened faucet. Which mountain range, stream and aquifer helped convey it along its journey? While vital to life, water can be a fickle blessing and downright disastrous in both over- and underabundance. Experiencing firsthand the rise in both deadly floods and droughts over the past three decades has made me uniquely aware of the “problem” of water and the challenges facing us now in Taiwan. ​ 是否能以另一種方式，重新讓人們感知「水」。我從許多條河流的源流區，再下溯到河口，靜靜的凝視、傾聽「水」的各種聲音、樣貌，也試著讓「水」訴說自己的故事！ To help expand our experience and understanding of water, this film explores its textures, forms and sounds starting from its origins along high mountain slopes and ending at slow-running river estuaries.
